I couldn’t keep running any longer.

I was on a planet– some planet I’ve never even heard of– hiding as best as I could from the ships. The search lasted for years. I was able to conceal myself for so long, but I slipped up. I tried to write in a part of history to win a bar bet. I lost the bet and gained a following of police officers, military units, and most importantly, that ship overhead, that Tawian-class cruiser…

The XSS Savior.

It saw me. There were no more trees to hide me, no caves to enter. They dropped down from the ship and encircled me once again.

Mikka. Koin. Yammoh. Lor. Tor. Wins. Brit. They were all here, and their faces were filled with anger.

“In the name of the universe, I sentence you to death,” said Admiral Mikka.

Please, don’t do this, I said. I don’t do anything bad anymore. I repented. I never hurt a soul, not physically. I’m just a writer!

Each of them raised weapons, ranging from guns to laser blasters to old-fashioned swords.

I realized I wasn’t going to be able to finish this story. Rainbow Destructor would become my famous work, wouldn’t it? The one where it gains such posthumous acclaim people begin to think that maybe you weren’t such a bad person after all. The kind where your family estate becomes richer than you ever were in your life, making more money a year than your books ever made you.
