Rainbow Destructor – Chapter 21: Blue 3

Ah!

When Mikka’s eyes opened, she immediately saw a flurry of action all around her. She was in the middle of some sort of battle, but her mind couldn’t spring into consciousness fast enough to register it.

She was…

She was in an ocean, blue all the way the eyes could see.

She wasn’t dead, so she was wearing a suit. Okay.

There was… wait.

The rest of her crew was here.

And they were fighting the squid-like monster.

Didn’t they do this already? And why was the ocean blue if it was made of ammonia?

Everyone darted back and forth, trying to contain its tentacles as they thrashed about, and all Mikka could do is float there and stare. Where was she… where was she… oh!

She saw Dr. Yammoh’s suit, the woman holding the electric harpoon that was vital to everyone not dying. Expensive, but very useful in situations like these.

N-n-n-no! Wait! She’s done this before!

…How many times by now?

Okay, what to do, what to do…

Uh, cheer her on? Will that work?

“Yeah! You go, Yvanetta! Get that monster!”

Dr. Yammoh looked over at her with great confusion, and then–

Immediately got smacked away by a stray tentacle, sending the harpoon flying out and shooting far away from the monster, completely missing it.

Gnack.

A voice boomed. “YOU LET IT HAPPEN AS IT WAS. YOU DID NOT SUCCEED.”

“I don’t understand this! Why is this happening??”

“DO IT AGAIN.”

There was a flash, and when Mikka next came to…

She immediately saw a flurry of action all around her. She was in the middle of some sort of battle, but her mind couldn’t spring into consciousness fast enough to register it.

She was…

She was in an ocean, blue all the way the eyes could see.

She wasn’t dead, so she was wearing a suit. Okay.

There was… wait.

Suddenly, there were two Dr. Yammohs, two Koins, two Lors, and some pink-colored woman she didn’t recognize.

And they weren’t wearing pressurized suits, just kind of swimming underwater in their clothes. They also didn’t seem particularly wet.

This didn’t make any sense.

The pink one was unusually close to Lor right now. The, uh, not suit one.

In the background of this, the giant squid monster was tossing around all of Mikka’s teammates, but as this had to have been the five hundredth time she had seen all of this, it wasn’t too interesting. These new people, however, were.

Dr. Yammoh swam up to her and waved. “Hey!” she shouted.

“I demand an explanation now,” Mikka said. “As the commanding officer of the XSS Savior, I have every right to–”

“Your world trapped you in an infinite time loop? During this stupid fight?” Yammoh asked.

“That… is how I’ve been living for a while, yes.”

“That really sucks.”

“Yeah it does, doesn’t it? Can I go home now?”

“Let’s try.”

A voice boomed. “YOU LET IT HAPPEN AS IT WAS. YOU DID NOT SUCCEED.”

“I don’t care, gnackface!” Mikka shouted.

“…WHAT?”

“Go gnack yourself!”

“….OH. OKAY.”

The world disappeared around them.
