Rainbow Destructor – Chapter 19: Yellow 2

Next thing Yvanetta saw, she and Maenad– er, Brit Forager, whoever that was, were in a new world, covered in yellow shining trinkets of various sorts, mostly coins. There was one person dancing around like a madwoman, throwing things into the air and yelling incomprehensibly.

As they approached, she realized that this person was none other than Miles Koin, the engineering specialist.

What was going on here?

“Hey, Koin, what’s going on here?” she shouted.

No response.

As they got closer, Koin freaked out and began throwing golden things at the two of them. “Get away! Mine! Mine!”

“I think she has succumbed to something rather nasty,” said Forager.

“I agree.” Yvanetta dodged the things being thrown at her and jumped, tackling Koin to the… not ground… oh nooooooo they were sliding down a huge hill of golden coins aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

They tumbled down for several seconds, Yvanetta essentially using Koin as a makeshift sled, only with very hard metallic surfaces instead of soft snow.

This was really stupid.

“Why?! Why must you separate me from my gold?!” shouted Koin.

Yvanetta slapped her. “Don’t be stupid! None of this is real! We’re being trapped in various illusions!”

Suddenly, the coins began melting, all of them. They turned into mush, then into jelly, and then into liquid.

And it was flowing rapidly.

Yvanetta tried using Koin as a makeshift raft, but that wasn’t working this time. Gnack eeeeeeveeeeeeeeerythiiiiiiiiiiiiiingggggg……..

After a few minutes of avoiding drowning in a river of yellow, Yvanetta, Koin, and Forager were able to get back on their feet and sort everything out.

Koin was still shaken by her immense riches being obliterated in just moments. “My… my…. my money…”

“It was never real,” Yvanetta said. “We’ve got to get out of whatever this place is, and fast. I feel like we may be trapped forever if we don’t get everyone out safely!”

“How many people are left?” Forager asked. “It’s been a while since I was trapped in the computer system.”

Koin stared at Forager strangely. “Who… are you?”

“It’s a bit of a story,” Forager replied, giggling. “I am what you may remember as Maenad. But that is not who I am.”

Koin shrugged.
