Rainbow Destructor – Chapter 15: Blue 2

Ah!

When Mikka’s eyes opened, she immediately saw a flurry of action all around her. She was in the middle of some sort of battle, but her mind couldn’t spring into consciousness fast enough to register it.

She was…

She was in an ocean, blue all the way the eyes could see.

She wasn’t dead, so she was wearing a suit. Okay.

There was… wait.

The rest of her crew was here.

And they were fighting the squid-like monster.

Didn’t they do this already? And why was the ocean blue if it was made of ammonia?

Everyone darted back and forth, trying to contain its tentacles as they thrashed about, and all Mikka could do is float there and stare. Where was she… where was she… oh!

She saw Dr. Yammoh’s suit, the woman holding the electric harpoon that was vital to everyone not dying. Expensive, but very useful in situations like these.

N-n-n-no! Wait! She’s done this before!

…How many times by now?

She wasn’t going to yell at Dr. Yammoh, no. That was rude and was going to get her concussed, which was the reason she felt bad and didn’t dump the squid, which probably in some small way contributed to the ship blowing up as it approached that rainbow star.

Uh, did it really explode?

Was Mikka just dead after all?

As she was thinking, she noticed Dr. Yammoh fire the electric harpoon, miss, and hit Lor, killing her. She screamed through the radio chatter and was promptly hit by a tentacle herself.

Sigh.

A voice boomed. “YOU LET IT HAPPEN AS IT WAS. YOU DID NOT SUCCEED.”

“Eh? Huh?”

“DO IT AGAIN.”

There was a flash, and when Mikka next came to…

She immediately saw a flurry of action all around her. She was in the middle of some sort of battle, but her mind couldn’t spring into consciousness fast enough to register it.

Blue… no, wait. Not this again!

Augh! She just wanted to get out of this damn loop, but how?

“Yo, Dr. Yammoh!” she shouted. “Aim really carefully, hit the stupid monster, and let’s back this son of a gnack.”

“I’m… I’m trying!

“Just relax.”

Dr. Yammoh began breathing heavily, Mikka could hear through the radio. She let out a little, “Ugh!” and fired away. The electric harpoon hit the monster right in the face, and it went down without anyone taking a scratch.

Holy hell.

“You did it! You actually did it!” Mikka exclaimed in joy.

“I… actually did it.”

A voice boomed. “YOU LET IT HAPPEN AS IT WAS. YOU DID NOT SUCCEED.”

“WHAT? Why?! I defeated the monster and Dr. Yammoh came out intact!

“DO IT AGAIN.”
